     Lafayette Lemuel Gilleylen was born circa 1828 at Mississippi.1 He was the son of John Shields Gilleylen and Rebecca Cook.1 Lafayette Lemuel Gilleylen was probably the male age 10 to 14 listed in the household of his father, John Shields Gilleylen, in the 1840 Federal Census of Monroe County, Mississippi.4 Lafayette Lemuel Gilleylen married Mary F. ?1 Lafayette Lemuel Gilleylen and Mary F. ? appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Monroe County, Mississippi, enumerated 30 November 1850.1 Lemuel enlisted in Company B, 3rd Battalion, Mississippi Infantry, Minute Men (state troops) on 28 July 1862 at Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. He appeared on the muster roll for that company from July 28th to October 1st. He was discharged on September 23rd (year not listed) per surgeon's certificate of disability. Lafayette Lemuel Gilleylen died before 27 November 1868.5

Note: The complete probate file for Lafayette can be found at FamilySearch.org (Mississippi, Probate Records, 1781-1930 -> Monroe -> Probate packets 1821-1916 no 1199-1229, starting with image 999). At the time of his death, his wife's name was Elizabeth. I don't know if she was the same as Mary F. who was found on the 1850 census with him.3

     John Berry Gilliland was born circa January 1790 at Washington County, Virginia.1 He was the son of John Gilliland and Sarah Berry.1 John Berry Gilliland married Jane McFerren at Tennessee.2

According to a biographical sketch on his son James published in the book History of Benton, Washington, Carroll, Madison, Crawford, Franklin, and Sebastian Counties, Arkansas in 1889, John Berry (J. B.) moved to Alabama as a boy and then to Tennessee where he was married and his eight children were born. As mentioned under his parents' information, his family went to the Stones River area of Tennessee. Stones River is in Rutherford County.2 The following information was found that probably pertains to John Berry Gilliland.

Their children McNary Harris, James, Mary J. and Samuel were listed as living with them.8 About 1850 he sold his place and moved on King’s River, where he farmed until his death in 1857.2
