Gilliland was probably one of the two males age 10 to 14 listed in the household of his father, Joseph C. Gilliland, in the 1840 Federal Census of Clark County, Indiana.2 Ezekiel W. Gilliland appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, in the household of his parents, Joseph C. Gilliland and Elizabeth Watson.1 On September 11, 1851, Ezekiel purchased Lot #14 in the Town of Providence, Floyd County, Indiana, from Ezekiel R. Day and his wife Margaret Ann for $90.3 On November 11, 1853, he sold that lot back to Ezekiel Day for the same amount.4 Then Ezekiel R. Day and his wife Lucinda sold the north 1/2 of Lot #13 in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana to Ezekiel for $90.5 And finally, on the same day, Ezekiel sold that lot to Jacob Gehlbach for $475.6
