     James Gilliland was born between 1795 and 1804.1 He was the son of James Gilliland and Mary ?1 James Gilliland was probably one of the two males age 16 to 25 listed in the household of his father, James Gilliland, in the 1810 Federal Census of Barren County, Kentucky.2 James Gilliland and Eleanor (Nellie) Wilson obtained a marriage license on 30 June 1813 at Barren County, Kentucky.3,4 On December 5, 1818, James and Eleanor sold 42 acres of land located on Skoal Creek waters of Skaggs Creek, to Theodorick Webb for $100. It was part of the tract of land his father had received in 1799. Deed was recorded on May 26, 1819.5

James Gilliland appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Barren County, Kentucky, with a household listed as one male under 10, one male 16-25, two females under 10, and one female 16-25, with one person engaged in agriculture.1 On January 8, 1825, James purchased 32 acres, 144 poles of land on Skoal Creek waters of Skaggs Creek, from his siblings Thomas, Samuel, Rachel, Joseph, and Margaret for $112.00 which was part of the original 200 acres that his father, James Sr., received in 1799.6 Then on October 4, 1830, James and Eleanor (Nelly) sold this same piece of land to Robert Roberson for $80.00.7 Also on this day, James and Nelly, and his sister, Rachel Gilleland, sold to John Biggers 125 acres of the orginal 200 acres patented to James Gilliland Sr. for $105.00.8

     David Crocket Gilland was born circa 1822 at Kentucky.2 He was the son of John Gilliland and Elizabeth (Betsey) Wilson.1 David Crocket Gilland married Pherible Maynard on 31 October 1849 at Barren County, Kentucky.3 David Crocket Gilland and Pherible Maynard appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Barren County, Kentucky, enumerated 11 September 1850.2

On March 19, 1859, David and Pherible sold 25 acres of land situated on Peters Creek in Barren County, Kentucky to Armstead L. Burgess for $75.4 David Crocket Gilland and Pherible Maynard appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Barren County, Kentucky, enumerated 30 August 1860. Their children John Thomas, James, Susan E. and Jesse D. were listed as living with them.5

On March 26, 1864, David's wife Pherible (listed as Feriba in the deed) along with David and Lucinda Maynard (who I'm assuming was a relative of Pherible's) sold 73 acres of land on Caney Fork in Barren County, known as the Maynard Land, to David R. Frances for $27 ($15 to Lucinda and $12 to Pherible.)6

On August 9, 1842, James and Nancy sold 50 acres of land on the waters of Caney Fork in Barren County, Kentucky to Booker Chambers for $85.4

James Gilleland and Nancy ? appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of District No. 1, Barren County, Kentucky, enumerated 7 September 1850. Their children Thomas W., James, George, David and Rose Ann were listed as living with them.2
