GORDO David Roscoe Gilliland, age 74, of Gordo, died March 2, 2011, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Trull officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhill Memorial Gardens with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Margie, Irma, and Geraldine; and his brothers, Earl, George, Leslie, Dan, Glen, and Thurmon.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Gilliland of Gordo, Ala; his sons, Steve Gilliland and wife, Paige of Thomasville, Ga. and Toby Gilliland of Gordo, Ala; his sister, Opallean Elmore; his brother, Dennis Gilliland; and two grandchildren, Hannah and Rebecca Gilliland.

Roscoe was born in Pickens County to the late Claude and Mae Free Gilliland and was very proud to be from the Palmetto community. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, a retired credit manager for Spiller Furniture, and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Pallbearers will be nephews Scott Gilliland, Danny Wayne Gilliland, Dusty Gilliland, Tracy Elmore, Shane Hogue, Chris Hogue, Todd Hogue, Raymond Gilliland, Dan Hogue, Jay Hogue, Ken Hogue, Lee Hogue, Chuck Gilliland, Hannon Elmore, Johnny Ryan, and Butch Park.

Honorary pallbearers are nieces Shannon, Mikki, April, Shirl, Pam, Gwen, Denice, and Lisa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Gilliland of Tuscaloosa; daughters, Judy Strickland (Alton) of Moores Bridge, Ala. and Lynn Englebert (Bubba) of Tuscaloosa; sons, Dustin Gilliland and Johnny Ryan both of Tuscaloosa; sister, Opal Elmore of Gordo; brothers, Roscoe (Carolyn) Gilliland of Carrollton and Dennis Gilliland of Tuscaloosa; grandchildren, Tina Brown (Danny), Jamie Crim (Phil) and Rodney Fisher (Angie); great-grandchildren, Taylor Fisher, Todd and Tyler Crim, and Caleb and Samuel Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was a devoted husband, father and Paw Paw, and will greatly be missed by all who knew and loved him. He devoted his life to serving his Lord, country and family, and helping others. He always put others before himself.

Pallbearers will be Larry Allen, Scott Gilliland, Tracy Elmore, Phil Crim, Danny Wayne Gilliland and Michael Goodman.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Motley, nursing staff of 6th Floor South - DCH Regional Medical Center, Hospice of West Alabama, Goodman Cheveron, Shelia and Gean Poe, Haley Hosmer, Bubba Miller, Hargrove Baptist Church, Mary Wilborn and family, Faye and Keith Weaver and family, Tina Gilliland, Luther Quarles, Billy Ray Davis and neighbors of Hargrove Road.2

RITES FOR BOGARD MAN WILL BE SATURDAY Funeral Services for Joel Gilliland of Bogard will be held at 2 o'clock Saurday at the Dickerson Funeral Home in Bogard. Mr. Gilliland, who suffered a heart attack early Tuesday morning, died Wednesday evening at 10:30 in the Staton clinic in Carrollton. He was born August 27, 1881, in the Mandeville community, the son of Alexander and Rebecca Hill Gilliland. He was married to Estalla Bland, who preceded him in death in 1932. He is survived by a son Olin Gilliland, Raytown and two daughters, Mrs. Gardner Best, St. Joseph and Mrs. Bessie Hawkins, Braymer. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Maggie Siders of Nebraska. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Gilliland; two brothers, John and Henry Gilliland, and sister, Mrs. Alice Hail and halfbrother, Stark Whittmore.

Joseph (Joel) Gilliland was buried on 13 May 1961 at Smith Cemetery, Bogard, Carroll County, Missouri.3,2

     Charles Gilliland was born on 10 March 1884 at Carroll County, Missouri.1 He was the son of William Thomas Gilliland and Eliza Ann Wooden.1 Charles Gilliland appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Berwyn township, Carter County, Oklahoma in the household of his father William Thomas Gilliland.2 Charles Gilliland died on 22 May 1915 at Eugene township, Carroll County, Missouri, at age 31.1 He was buried on 23 May 1915 at Big Adkins Cemetery, Carroll County, Missouri.1
