William Gillan married Margaret Leitch.1 William Gillan and Margaret Leitch appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Tremont, Tazewell County, Illinois, enumerated 23 December 1850. Their children Mary Jane and Silas Young were listed as living with them.1

On January 26, 1854, William purchased a tract of land in Tazewell County, Illinois, from Richard & Martha Gill for $150 its description being the SE¼ of the SW¼ of Section 28, Township 24N, Range 3W.3 This was tract was located right next to James Gillan. Was James related? Possibly a nephew? Then on October 4, 1855, William sold this land to James for $200.4

On October 19, 1858, William purchased a tract of land in Tazewell County from John & Rachael Harpham for $800 its description being the NW¼ of the NE¼ of Section 28, Township 24N, Range 3W.5 Then on February 22, 1860, William sold the the land he purchased from John & Rachael Harpham to Seth Gabbott for $50.6 William Gillan and Margaret Leitch appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Danvers, McLean County, Illinois, enumerated 14 June 1860. Their children Mary Jane and Silas Young were listed as living with them.7 William Gillan and Margaret Leitch appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Danvers township, McLean County, Illinois, enumerated 4 June 1870. Their children Mary Jane and Silas Young were listed as living with them.8
