Jack McKendree Gilliland III

Jack McKendree Gilliland III was born on 1 May 1971. He was the son of Jack McKendree Gilliland and Nancy ? Jack McKendree Gilliland III died on 13 March 2014 at age 42.

The following obituary appeared online:

Jack Mckendree Gilliland III, 42-years-old, left Saint Vincent Hospital and arrived in heaven at 5:45pm on March 13th, 2014 due to complications from pancreatitis. He leaves this world a legacy of faith and devotion to Jesus, his family and the Oregon Ducks.

Born in Enumclaw, WA on May 1st 1971 to Jack and Nancy Gilliland, he grew up throughout Michigan and Oregon spending much of his early years hunting and fishing with his dad and younger brother Andy.

The son of a Pastor, Jack was involved in church activities from a young age and developed a personal relationship with Christ that would become the defining characteristic of his adult life. It was his faith that led him after graduating from Portland Christian to attend Central Christian College in McPherson, KS where he received an Associates degree in Youth Ministry. He went on to Spring Arbor College in Michigan where he was part of the Power 107 campus radio station; a love for which helped him to receive a Bachelor Degree in both Communications and Youth Ministry.

After college, Jack returned to Oregon where he worked various jobs ranging from construction and janitorial to computer work. He was often found helping his brother in construction by driving heavy equipment or doing construction clean-up; but it was his passion for technology that led him to fix computers for many of his friends and family. He eventually made his home in Newberg, OR where he recently began driving school bus for First Student. It was apparent from the start that Jack’s love of serving others made driving school bus the perfect job for him. Loved by co-workers and kids alike; Jack had a new found happiness and zeal for life.

Jack enjoyed reading Science Fiction and Anime during his personal time. He was often found working on his Christian Sci-Fi Trilogy and had recently begun teaching himself to draw anime. However, his greatest fulfillment came from volunteering at Northside Community Church in Newberg where he worked the sound board and volunteered with the youth program.

Beloved son, brother, cousin and uncle; Jack cared deeply for his family. He was particularly cherished by his nephew Brenden and niece Kalynn who were always excited to learn that “Uncle Jack” was coming over.

Ever the devoted son, he treasured his mother and poured his love upon her. After his father left to be with Jesus he took her under his wings and made her feel special, cared for and encouraged. He remained at her side and became a constant source of love and support.

Above all Jack was a man of faith. He believed in walking right before the Lord and strove to live as an example to all he came in contact with. His faith in Christ was apparent in his love for others and it compels us all to match its depth.

Jack will be greatly missed by those who knew him, and though the Ducks have one less fan in this world, we are confident he continues to cheer us all on from beside the throne of grace.

A memorial service will be held this Saturday March 22nd at 4:00pm at Northside Community Church 1800 Hoskins St., Newberg, OR 97132.
