Samuel Gilliland1

     Samuel Gilliland was born circa 1786 at Virginia.2 He was the son of Samuel Gilliland and Elizabeth Jane Edmonston.3 Samuel Gilliland and Sarah Krouskop obtained a marriage license on 9 January 1813 at Pickaway County, Ohio.4 Samuel Gilliland appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Hamilton township, Jackson County, Ohio, with a household listed as one male under 5, one male 5-9, one male 10-14, two males 15-19, one male 50-59, and one female 40-49.5 He married Sarah Johnston on 22 April 1850 at Jackson County, Ohio.1 Samuel Gilliland and Sarah Johnston appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Hamilton township, Jackson County, Ohio, enumerated 17 October 1850.2 Also living with them were two of Samuel's sons from his first marriage to Sarah Krouskop, Jackson and Harrison Gilliland, and three of Sarah's children from her first marriage to John Berrisford Gilleland, Elgina, Truett, and Alan. On January 1, 1852, Samuel made out his Last Will & Testament. In it he mentioned his wife Sarah and his children George, Samuel, Nathan, Hugh, Jacob, Betsy (who married William Horton), Jackson, and Harrison, who was the youngest son.6 Samuel Gilliland died on 25 January 1852 at Jackson County, Ohio.7 He was buried at Stephenson Cemetery, Jackson County, Ohio.7 (For burial information see Find-a-Grave.)

     Enoch Gilliland was born on 5 June 1812.2 He was the son of John Gilliland and Elizabeth Thomas.1 Enoch Gilliland married Susannah Shepherd on 30 January 1834 at Madison County, Ohio.3 Enoch Gilliland died on 7 September 1834 at Madison County, Ohio, at age 22.2 He was buried at Fitzgerald Cemetery, Madison County, Ohio.2
