Donald J. Gilliland of Sharon passed away of natural causes at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, in his home, after a brief illness. He was 74.

Mr. Gilliland was born Nov. 27, 1940, in Sharon, a son of Robert Frank and Mary Loretta Christenson Gilliland.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1959 graduate of Sharon High School.

Don was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 20 years before its closing in 1984. He then worked 13 years as an agent for Prudential Life Insurance Co. and later at George Junior Republic, Pine Township.

He was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.

“Gypsy,” as many of his friends knew him, was an active member of American Legion Post 299, Sharon, and its golf and billiard leagues. He also was a member of Benevolent Order of the Elks Lodge 103, Sharon, and Moose Club, Farrell.

Surviving are: a son; a daughter; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Dr. Robert F. Gilliland Jr. and his wife, Linda, Akron; and H. Richard Gilliland and his wife, Ramona, Liberty Township, Trumbull County.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, the former Joann M. Lisko.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Gilliland died on 9 December 2013 at Clarks Mills, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, at age 67.1 He was buried at Stevenson Cemetery, Greenville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania.1

Ray A. Gilliland of Hadley Road, Clarks Mills (Perry Township), passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Tuesday evening, Dec. 10, 2013, at his residence. He was 67.

Mr. Gilliland was born Oct. 20, 1946, in Greenville, a son of Robert R. and Frances M. Derr Gilliland.

He had been employed for more than 19 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and was self-employed as a dairy farmer. He also owned and operated Gilliland General Store in Atlantic and Utica.

He had attended Clarks Mills United Methodist Church.

Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing and raising horses, taking great pride in showing them.

On Aug. 29, 1980, he married the former Katherine Thompson, who preceded him in death Aug. 25, 1998. He subsequently married the former Twila A. Osborn on July 15, 1999.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by: his mother, Frances M. Gilliland, Greenville; three sons, Robert W. Gilliland and his wife Michelle, Saegertown; Lester E. Ault and his wife Michelle, Cochranton; and Brad Miller and his wife Beth, Greenville; two daughters, Tami L. Baker and her husband Rusty, Cochranton; and Donna Emigh and her husband Joe, Utica; two sisters, Kitty M. Wolfe and her husband James; and Chip Sheffer and her husband George, all Greenville; his first wife, Louise Gilliland, Meadville; and 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two nieces.

Besides his second wife, Katherine, he was preceded in death by his father.

The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice or Utica Volunteer Fire Department, Box 83, Utica, PA 16362.
