Annabelle Pryor
Hermitage schools retiree belonged to Grotto group

Annabelle Pryor, formerly of 80 S. Kerrwood Drive, Hermitage, passed away at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Pryor was born July 18, 1916, in Sharpsville to Henry A. and Etta Mae Patton Gilliland.

She graduated in 1933 from Brookfield High School.

Mrs. Pryor was employed for 23 years at Hickory High School, Hermitage, where she worked in the cafeteria and maintenance departments. She retired in June 1988.

She was a member of Hickory United Methodist Church in Hermitage.

Mrs. Pryor was a member of El Bika Grotto and the Grottoettes of Sharon and Hermitage; was a former member of the Degree of Honor, Sharon; and a founding member of the maintenance and secretaries union of Hermitage School District.

The loves of her life were her two grandchildren, “My Michael” and “Little Haley.” Her favorite place on earth was her summer home on the lake in Geneva, Ohio, where she had many friends and hosted numerous cookouts for everyone.

Annabelle will be sadly missed by all of her family, friends and her Nugent family of caregivers.

Her husband, Charles E. Pryor, whom she married March 13, 1948, in Sharon United Methodist Church, passed away in 1991.

Surviving are: two daughters, Robinanne Pryor-Axtell; and Sharlee Germano and her husband Robert, all Sharpsville; a foster daughter, Renne Von Moos, Warren, Ohio; a foster son, Van “Skip” Hoagland, Hermitage; two brothers, Wade Gilliland and his wife Agnes, Masury; and Patton Gilliland and his wife Millie, Hubbard; two grandchildren, Michael Germano, Studio City, Calif; and Haley Germano, Sharpsville; her foster granddaughters, Rebecca and Tessa Von Moos, both Warren; two sisters-in-law, Judy Venable and Betty Gilliland; two brothers-in-law, John J. Filipovich and Frederick Collar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Pryor was preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Thelma Grandy, Margaret McCallen, Kathryn Lamber, Edith Unrue, Pearl Tomek, Shirley Filipovich and Rita Mae Collar; and four brothers, John “Hank” Gilliland; and Michael G., Richard G. and Kenneth G. Gilliland.

Wade F. Gilliland

A private funeral service will be held for Wade F. Gilliland, 500 Cleveland St., Masury. He died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday (10-12-10) in Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio. He was 86.

Mr. Gilliland was born Sept. 29, 1924, in the Patagonia area of Hermitage to Henry Abner and Etta Mae Patton Gilliland.

Wade attended Brookfield area schools.

He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific theatre in the Philippines and New Zealand.

Wade retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. in 1984 after 40 years of service. Following that, he worked for Pinkerton Security Agency in Youngstown.

He was a member and officer in Local 617 of AFL-CIO and owned and operated the former Buckeye Tavern in Brookfield.

He was a member of the former Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8860, Masury; and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103, Sharon.

Wade was an avid fan of the Ohio State football team and was a personal friend of the late coach, Woody Hayes. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

On April 17, 1948, he married his wife, the former Agnes C. Dunch, who survives at home.

Other survivors include: two sons, Wade M. Gilliland and his wife Valorie, Sharon; and Patton J. Gilliland, at home; three daughters, Nancy S. and her husband Dave Williamson, Austintown, Ohio; Pamela J. and her husband Donald Masterson, Phoenix; and Colleen and her husband Sean Alfredo, Brookfield; and a brother, Patton Gilliland, Hubbard.

Completing the family circle are nine grandchildren, Tammy and her husband Dow Lindholm, Todd Hacker, Jennifer Williamson-Catania, David and his wife Michelle Williamson, Melanie and her husband David Mullins, Lauren and Marcus Gilliland; and Anthony and Tyler Alfredo; and five great-grandchildren, Emilie Rose and Luke David Williamson; Ella Rae Catania; and Alexa Rose and Sarah Grace Lindholm.

Wade was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Richard, John, Michael and Kenneth Gilliland; and eight sisters, Annabelle Pryor, Shirley Filipovich, Rita Collar, Thelma Grandy, Margaret McCalIen, Edith Unrue, Katherine Lamber and Pearl Tomek.

Wade’s family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Briarfield on the Ridge Nursing Home, Wing Seven, Mineral Ridge, Ohio, and the nursing staff of the Eighth Floor of Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, for their loving and professional care.

Dick served in the U.S. Army overseas in Japan during World War II.

Richard was a pipe fitter for the former Sharon Transformer division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 42 years. He retired in 1983.

There are three daughters from his marriage on Oct. 1, 1949 to Betty Prosser Gilliland: Mrs. Amy (Frank) Sobnosky; Mrs. Susan (Brian) Joyce; and Mrs. Helen (Samuel) Finelli, all of Girard, Ohio; a sister, Annibelle Pryor, Hermitage; two brothers, Wade Gilliland, Masury; and Patton Gilliland, Hubbard; and three grandchildren, Marshall and Harrison Finelli and Frank Sobnosky, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, John, Mike and Kenneth Gilliland; and seven sisters, Thelma Grandy, Katherine Lamber, Margaret McCallen, Edith Unrue, Pearl Tomek, Shirley Filipovich and Rita Coller.
