Geneva Elwanda Newsom Gilliland, 93, of Dyersburg, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1960, being active in the Fidelis Sunday School Class, a faithful prayer warrior of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and a member of the WMU, Faithful Women of Missions. She served as Historian of the 1942 Newbern High School graduating class. She retired from Heckethorn Manufacturing Company after serving 33 years as Credit Manager.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Dyersburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hickman officiating and burial at Fairview Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Dyersburg Funeral Home.

Survivors include her son, Michael Lee Gilliland and wife, Phyllis, of Memphis; two daughters, Brenda Kay Gilliland Enochs and Pamela Jo Gilliland, both of Dyersburg; three grandchildren, Michelle Lee Gilliland Olson and husband, Erik, of Memphis, Michael Lee Gilliland II of Memphis and Pennie Lynn Wilson Gean and husband, Ryan, of Newbern; four great-grandchildren, Sierra Skye Olson and Leif Olson, both of Memphis and Theron Gean and Macey Gean, both of Newbern; a sister, Martha Hancock of Dyersburg; a brother, David L. Newsom of Newbern; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hugh "Gillie" Gilliland; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles William Newsom; a grandson, William Paul Enochs; and four brothers, Jacob Newsom, William Sullivan "Bill" Newsom, John E. Newsom and Dale "Bronco" Newsom.

Pallbearers are Michael Lee Gilliland II, Erik Olson, Ryan Gean, Theron Gean, Leif Olson and Bubba Hendren. Honorary pallbearers are Ted Lowery and Wallace Kennedy.

The family requests memorials be directed to First Baptist Church Building Fund.

The family recognizes her caregivers Annette Henning, Deborah Overton, Amy Cottrell, Sara Rice and Ashley Johnson.
