Surviving are his wife, Pat Palmer Gilliland; a son and his wife, Randall Adkins and Melissa B. Gilliland of Hampton; a brother, Joseph A. Gilliland of Riverview, Fla; and a grandson, Mark Palmer Gilliland.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in the R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dennis L. Peters. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 303 Butler Farm Rd., Suite 106-A, Hampton, 23666.3
