Lynn H. Gilliland, 74, of King George County passed away Saturday, May 19, 2012, at home.

Lynn was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Muskogee, Okla., to the late Harry H. and Anna Mae Gilliland. He grew up in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee High School and North Eastern State College in Tahlequah, Okla. During his high school and college years, he was a three-time winner of the First State Award for Excellence in Designing and Craftsmanship of the Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild model car competition.

He moved to Dahlgren in 1961 for a job at the (then) Naval Weapons Laboratory. He worked in the U.S. Navy Fleet Ballistic Missile Program for many years and retired in December of 1993 from the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

He had many interests over the years including photography, cars, ham radio and model railroading. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in King George.

Lynn is survived by his wife of 43 years, Frances.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Trinity United Methodist Church, King George.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, Box 155, King George, Va. 22485; or to Mary Washington Hospice, 5012 Southpoint Parkway, Fredericksburg, Va. 22407.

PRINEVILLE – Lois Joan Gilliland Groves, 71, formerly of Monument, died Aug. 23, in Prineville.

Mrs. Groves was born Nov. 5, 1941, in Tulsa, Okla., to Ted Eugene Gilliland and Fern Agnes McCarty Gilliland. In 1943, she moved to Hood River.

She graduated from Columbia Christian College in Portland in 1958, and was active in girls choir.

After graduating from high school, she attended Magic Valley Christian College in Albion, Idaho.

In December 1961, she married Vonnie Thomas Groves, with whom she owned a concrete pumping company.

She enjoyed all types of crafts, flea markets and setting up for Christmas sales with her daughter and granddaughter.

She lived in Hermiston until 1999, when she moved to Monument to enjoy the small town atmosphere. While living there, she served as mayor, served on the senior board and the Monument service club.

Survivors include her son, Ronald Scott of Hermiston; daughter, Doreen Groves of Prineville; brother, Darrell Eugene Gilliland of Gainesville, Texas; and grandchildren, Shelby Forrest, Reese Groves, R.T. Groves, Lewis Groves, Bianna Groves, Vonnie Groves and Shara Groves.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vonnie, in 1985.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Charles Cancer Care Foundation, 2500 N.E. Neff Rd., Bend, OR 97701. Arrangements are under the care of Deschutes

Memorial Chapel, 63875 N. Highway 97, Bend, OR 97701. Lois Joan Gilliland died on 23 August 2013 at Prineville, Crook County, Oregon, at age 71.1
