     Henderson Gilleland was born on 27 May 1813 at North Carolina.2,1 He was the son of William Gilleland and Elizabeth Fisher.1 Henderson Gilleland married Lavina Jones on 28 November 1835 at North Carolina.3,1 Henderson Gilleland and Lavina Jones appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Jackson County, Georgia, enumerated 10 August 1850. Their children Elizabeth, Margaret F., Elbert, Eliza A., Martha E., William A. and Mary J. were listed as living with them.1 Henderson Gilleland married Mary Jane Jones on 31 December 1854 at Jackson County, Georgia.4 Henderson Gilleland and Mary Jane Jones appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Watkinsville, Clarke County, Georgia, enumerated 4 July 1860.5 Henderson Gilleland died on 13 July 1868 at age 55.2 He was buried at Boggs Chapel, Oconee Heights, Clarke County, Georgia.2

On September 16, 1868, William A. Gilliland and Henry A. Lowrance were made administrators of Henderson's estate. They were selected by his widow, Mary Jane, and daughters, Margaret F. Gilliland, Martha E. Gilliland and Elizabeth Fisher. It appears that Henderson was a doctor, possibly a dentist.6
