Lucas Gilliland

M, #8405
Last Edited=8 Nov 2017
(Lucas was most likely a son of William Gilliland Sr.) On October 6, 1817, the surveyor of Hancock County, Georgia, was authorized to survey a tract of land for Lucas containing 200 acres on his own headrights. It was executed on October 10th for 181½ acres.1 Lucas Gilliland married Elizabeth Morgan on 10 April 1822 at Hancock County, Georgia.2 On February 7, 1825, Lucas, of Fayette County, sold 180½ acres of land on the waters of Buffalo in Hancock County to Thomas A. Smith for $130.3 He appeared on the 1826 Georgia Property Tax list for the Henry C. Morgan district in Fayette County.4 Lucas Gilliland married Elizabeth Hunt on 25 December 1831 at Fayette County, Georgia.2

Very little information is available on Lucas Gilliland. He appeared in only one deed from Hancock County and none from Fayette County. A search of the online Will Index for Fayette County found no listing for him so he apparently died intestate. Other online probate files revealed nothing. There was an Elizabeth Gilliland who married a William Brown on August 11, 1843 in Fayette County who could have been Lucas' widow, Elizabeth Hunt.
