Gilleland, on 23 January 1798 at Connoquenessing township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.1 Elizabeth McCandless was probably the female age 16 to 25 listed in the household of her husband, Hugh Gilleland, in the 1800 Federal Census of Connoquenessing township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.4 Elizabeth McCandless was probably the female age 26 to 44 listed in the household of her husband, Hugh Gilleland, in the 1810 Federal Census of Middlesex township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.5 Elizabeth McCandless was probably the female over age 45 listed in the household of her husband, Hugh Gilleland, in the 1820 Federal Census of Middlesex township, Butler County, Pennsylvania.6 Elizabeth McCandless was probably the female age 50 to 59 listed in the household of her husband, Hugh Gilleland, in the 1830 Federal Census of Ohio township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.7 Elizabeth McCandless was probably the female age 60 to 69 listed in the household of her husband, Hugh Gilleland, in the 1840 Federal Census of Ohio township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.8

According to a tombstone found in Hiland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Perrysville, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Elizabeth died on 6 July 1849. However, she was recorded on the 1850 census living in Ohio township with her son Andrew and his wife Jennie Taylor. One explanation for this would be that the census was taken earlier and post dated August 1850.3,9
