Wilson.1 Frederick Gilliland appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Andover, Allegany County, New York in the household of his parents, Warren Gilliland and Mildred L. Wilson.3 Frederick Gilliland died on 14 December 2013 at Clarksville, Allegany County, New York, at age 85.2 He was buried at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar, Allegany County, New York.2

The following obituary appeared 16 December 2013 in the Olean Times Herald:

CLARKSVILLE - Fred J. Gilliland, 85, of 8078 County Road 40, passed away Saturday (Dec. 14, 2013), following a lengthy illness.

Born March 22, 1928, in Galeton, Pa., he was the son of Warren F. and Mildred I. Wilson Gilliland. On Oct. 27, 1951, in Cuba, he married the former Reva B. Stoddard, who survives.

Fred had resided most of his life in the town of Clarksville. He was raised in Andover and attended a rural district school there. His family moved to the town of Clarksville and Fred worked with his father on the family farm for several years. He was later employed at ACA Oil Co. in Olean and DF Hickock Co. in Scio as a tool dresser. After that, he was employed as a truck driver for the Town of Clarksville for 10 years, then as a truck driver for Allegany County Highway Department for the next 17 years, retiring in 1985.

Fred enjoyed hunting and visiting with his friends and family. He was a past member of the VFW Post # 9478 of Franklinville and the Conservation Club of Franklinville.

Surviving in addition to his wife Reva, are a son, Collie F. (Barb) Gilliland of Clarksville; a brother, Ted Gilliland of Belmont; two sisters, Liz (George) Edwards of Cuba and Ethel Harris of West Clarksville; as well as several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitations. Private funeral services will be held at a time set by the family. The Rev. Leslie Chambers, pastor of the 1st Baptist Church of West Clarksville, will officiate and burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Bolivar.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrie Dr., Ste. 6 Williamsville, NY 14221. Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.treusdellfuneralhome.com.

     David Gilliland was born in 1772.1 On July 11, 1796, David, of Cherry Valley, Otsego County, New York, purchased from Nathaniel Griggs, ½ of lot #3 in the subdivision of lot #20, 125 acres, lying in the town of Cherry Valley, for £125 (recorded July 11, 1804).2 He married Anna ? On December 23, 1806, David purchased 69 acres of land, situated in the town of Worcester, from Lewis and Hannah Moores, for $370.29.3 On February 15, 1811, David purchased from Joseph and Lydia Hubbard, 75 acres of land, part of lot #3 in subdivision lot #20, part of a parcel of land sold by Daniel Campbell to Nathaniel Griggs and by him to Joseph Hubbard (bordering David's other land), for $750.4 On February 15, 1815, David purchased 51 acres of land in Westford, from George William Prevost, for $510.5 Finally, on January 1, 1817, David purchased an additional 43+ acres from George William Prevost, in subdivision #6, lot #35.6 David Gilliland appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Westford, Otsego County, New York, with a household listed as two males under 10, one male 10-15, one male 16-18, two males 16-25, one male 45 & over, two females under 10, one female 10-15, one female 16-25, one female 26-44, with four persons engaged in agriculture.7 He died intestate on 18 October 1823 at Otsego County, New York.1 He was buried at Draper Hill Cemetery, Westford, Otsego County, New York.1 (For burial information see Find-a-Grave.)

On November 6, 1823, his wife Anna and John Jackson were granted letters of administration for his estate.8 On April 18, 1825, a petition was filed by David's widow Anna and her second husband, Staley Cossaart regarding her dower and the guardianship of her children.9
