     Samuel Gilliland was born between 1756 and 1784.1 He married Ann Brown, daughter of Benjamin Brown and Nancy Sloan.2 Samuel Gilliland appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with a household listed as one male 26-44 and one female 26-44.1 On December 20, 1803, Samuel was granted 70 acres of land by the state of North Carolina, situated in Mecklenburg County on Clark Creek, waters of Rocky River. Then on January 29, 1806, the land was put up for public auction by an order of the County Court in a judgement against Samuel for the sum of £21/4/3.3

     John Gilliland was born between 1756 and 1784.1 He appeared on the 1790 Federal Census of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, enumerated 1790, with a household listed as two males over 16, and four females.2 On August 7, 1794, the state of North Carolina, Mecklenburg County, surveyed for John 14 acres of land on the waters of Rocky River. Aaron Gilliland and Elijah Harris' signatures were also on this document. Because of this I'm assuming that John was somehow related to Aaron.3 John Gilliland appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with a household listed as one male 26-44, four females under 10, two females 10-15, and one female 26-44.1

     Aaron Gilliland was born between 1756 and 1784.1 He and Ann Alexander obtained a marriage bond on 28 January 1793 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.2 John Gilliland was bondsman and James Meek was a witness.2 Aaron Gilliland appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with a household listed as three males under 10, one male 26-44, one female under 10, and one female 26-44.1 He appeared on the 1810 Federal Census of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with a household listed as three males under 10, one male 16-25 (I believe this is a mistake and should be 26-44), one female under 10, and one female 26-44.3

Aaron Gilliland and Sarah Soloman obtained a marriage bond on 25 April 1815 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.2 David Alexander was bondsman and Isaac Alexander was a witness.2

Aaron Gilliland and Nancy Bridges obtained a marriage bond on 16 June 1818 at Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.2 Aaron Gilliland appeared on the 1820 Federal Census of Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, with a household listed as two males under 10, one male 10-15, one male 16-18, one male 18-25, one male 45 and over, one female under 10, one female 16-25, and one female 26-44 with two persons engaged in agriculture and one engaged in manufacturing.4

In the newspaper "Western Carolinian" out of Salisbury, North Carolina, dated April 22, 1823, Aaron was listed as having a letter remaining at the post office in Charlotte, North Carolina.5

     Allen Gilleland was born on 30 January 1799 at North Carolina.2,3,4 He was the son of Thomas Gilleland and Mary Allen.1 Allen Gilleland and Jane McClure White obtained a marriage license on 16 June 1821 at Lincoln County, North Carolina.5 On October 5, 1823, Allen purchased some land from his father (number of acres not specified on the deed) located on Litten's Creek.6 Allen Gilleland appeared on the 1830 Federal Census of Rabun County, Georgia, with a household listed as one male 5-9, one male 30-39, one female under 5, one female 5-9, and one female 20-29.3 He appeared on the 1840 Federal Census of Cherokee County, Georgia, with a household listed as two males under 5, one male 5-9, one male 15-19, one male 40-49, one female 5-9, one female 10-14, one female 15-19, and one female 40-49 with two persons engaged in agriculture.7 He and Jane McClure White appeared on the 1850 Federal Census of Cherokee County, Georgia, enumerated 13 October 1850. Their children Josephene, Lafayette, James, Hugh, Jerome and Minerva Jane were listed as living with them.4 Allen Gilleland appeared on the 1860 Federal Census of Conns Creek District, Cherokee County, Georgia, enumerated 26 June 1860. His children Jerome and Minerva Jane were listed as living with him.8 Allen Gilleland appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Conns Creek, Cherokee County, Georgia, enumerated 13 July 1870. His daughter Minerva Jane was listed as living with him, as was 15 year old Elisha J. White, listed as a farm laborer.9 Allen Gilleland appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Conns Creek, Cherokee County, Georgia, enumerated 17 June 1880.
