David McBrayer was born on 15 February 1772 at Tryon County (now Lincoln & Rutherford), North Carolina.1 He married Mary Young in 1793 at Rutherford County, North Carolina.1 David McBrayer appeared on the 1800 Federal Census of Buncombe County, North Carolina, with a household listed as one male 26-44, three females under 10, and one female 16-25.2 He died on 6 January 1855 at DeKalb County, Alabama, at age 82.1
David and his wife Mary left the Broad River area of Tryon (now Rutherford) County, North Carolina around 1794 and moved to the Horseshoe community of Buncombe (now Henderson) County where their daughter Rebecca was born. In 1818 the family moved to the Greenville District of South Carolina where David bought 100 acres of land from Robert Warren on January 30, 1819. Supposedly David and family left South Carolina around 1821 and migrated to Alabama. [The deed for the land that David purchased from Robert Warren has been found (Book L, pages 149-150) but the deed for the sale of this land has not been found.]

David can be found in the 1830 Federal Census for Blount County, Alabama just three families down from his daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, John Gilliland.
