Allen Johnston Gililland married Martha Hunter.4 On January 15, 1867, Allen purchased a tract of land situated in the SW¼ of the SE¼ of Section 22, Township 16N, Range 31W of Washington County, Arkansas, from Jane M. and Susan Angeline Kinnebrough.5 Then on February 17, 1869, he purchased some additional land from Jane and John Kinnebrough (13 rods off of the north end of the NW¼ of the NE¼ of Section 27, Township 16N, Range 31W, about 6½ acres.)6

Allen was a member of the Washington Masonic Lodge No. 1 of Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas.7 He was part of a group that petitioned for a lodge to be formed at Viney Grove: "The petition of Bro. A. J. Gilliland and others for a lodge at Viney Grove and to be named Viney Grove, and recommended by Washington Lodge No. 1, together with a recommendation, are correct, and we recommend a dispensation be granted."8 By November 23, 1870, he was Master of the Viney Grove Lodge.9 On August 19, 1872, the M. W. Grand Lodge of the State of Arkansas issued a dispensation to Allen Gilliland, B. F. Smith, Abe Allen and others, for a new lodge to be located at Farmington, Washington County and to be called Farmington Lodge. By November, Allen was Secretary of the Farmington Lodge.10

Allen Johnston Gililland and Martha Hunter appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Marrs Hill township, Washington County, Arkansas, enumerated August 1870. Their children Nancy C., Lubelon M., Medora F. (Dora) and James M. were listed as living with them, as were Syrena and Allen P., his children from his marriage to Nancy Stevens.4 On September 27, 1872, Allen and Martha sold their land in the SW¼ of the SE¼ of Section 22, Township 16N, Range 31W, to Henry Fine.11

Allen Johnston Gililland and Martha Hunter appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Ula Precinct, Custer County, Colorado, enumerated 13 July 1880. Their children Medora F. (Dora), James M. and Lubelon M. were listed as living with them.12
